Safer Streets - Buckinghamshire South Liberal Democrats

Many parents and residents have told us the same thing: too many drivers are going too fast on roads past our schools.
Across Buckinghamshire, there have been dozens of reported incidents of drivers failing to stop or behaving dangerously around school crossing patrols in the last three years.

The evidence on what works is clear. A pedestrian hit at 20mph is around five times more likely to survive than one hit at 30mph. Areas that have introduced 20mph limits have seen a 20% drop in casualties. This isn't about inconveniencing drivers: it's about giving our children a fighting chance if the worst happens.

That's why Liberal Democrats have put motions to Buckinghamshire Council calling for 20mph limits around schools — only to see them blocked or watered down by the Conservatives running the council.
